Today’s Each Way Horse Racing Tips: Saturday 2nd May, 2026

2:20 Newmarket: AL ARBEED

This Richard Hannon runner caught my eye last time out, when a staying on 5th at Musselburgh.

Therefore, the step up in trip today I think is a plus and the form of that race has since been boosted.

The winner Bellarchi has won again, plus the 6th Persuasion and even the 8th A War Eagle both on their their next starts.

2:40 Thirsk: FLIGHT PLAN

Flight Plan flew home in the Thirsk Hunt Cup 12 months ago and I think he’s got a top chance of doing so again.

He was rated 102 last season when taking the race and is now 8lbs lower this time.

Yes, he’s not won since, but has been ticking over on the AW in recent months. And you feel this would have been the plan for him since.

Sports the first-time tongue-tie too and regular rider Sam James gets the leg-up.

All aboard the Flight Plan.

2:55 Newmarket: RUMSTAR

Has been well-backed in recent days and was a horse I gave a big mention to on The Final Furlong podcast this week.

He took this race last season when coming off the pace (see below) and with plenty of early speed in this year’s renewal too.

I think it could be more of the same.

We know he likes Newmarket (2-2) and to add further confidence the Jonathan Portman yard are in tip-top form.

Rumstar is the call to shine again.

3:35 Newmarket: DISTANT STORM

The first Classic of the season is an open affair, with the likes of Gstaad and Bow Echo popular.

But Godolphin have won three of the last four runnings of this and I think they can do so again.

They run King’s Trail, Avicenna and Distant Storm – with all three very much respected. Especially the unbeaten King’s Trail, who could be anything.

However, the horse with the form in the book is the William Buick-ridden Distant Storm, having been an excellent third in the Dewhurst last time (watch below)

He’s got a bit of ground to make up with the second that day Gstaad, but looks sure to be suited by the longer trip today (7f up to 1m).

I think he’s sure to be well-tuned up for this first run back. Oh and this ‘blue’ runner is also the pick of William Buick.

Distant is the call to cause a Guineas ‘storm’.
