Andy Newton Horse Racing NAP Tip Today (Friday 31st July, 2026)

4:20 Wolverhampton ROC DE FER (NAP)

This Prescott horse got off the mark at the fifth try at Southwell on Monday and I don’t think a 6lb rise will be enough to stop him going in again.

He won by 1 1/2 lengths that day, but seemed to have a bit more up his sleeve.

The switch to Wolves should be fine too and Luke Morris, who was on the last day, carries on in the saddle.

Rock De Fer looks ‘solid’ here.

2:25 Goodwood TALK OF NEW YORK (NB)

Charlie Appleby has never won this Goodwood race, but on all known form that should be changing here.

This Godolphin runner is the clear top-rated in the field (116) and was only 1 3/4 lengths off Sussex Stakes winner Bow Echo last time at Royal Ascot.

That’s clearly the best form on show here and knows how to win – having got his head in front three times (from 5 starts).

Talk Of New York can spread the word today.

6:25 Newmarket ALEATRIX

Won at Salisbury on debut by an easy 3 1/2 lengths and despite having to give 7lbs away to the Gosden runner Without Prejudice, looks the sort of have more to come.

In what looks a two-horse race, she can remain unbeaten.

8:32 Newmarket MERTOUN

Did us a favour the last day when winning easily up at Carlisle – which followed on from a win at Windsor.

Up 11lbs for the last win, but that was by 5 lengths and is taken to carry on his upward curve.

Connections are also helping by booking a 7lb claimer (Alexandra Egan), so really is only 4lbs higher than last time.

Mertoun is the call to land the three-timer.
