Andy Newton’s Lay Of The Day Horse Racing Tip: Thursday 9th July 2026

4:55 Carlisle: BLACK STORM

Not been far away in his last two races and probably didn’t enjoy the softer ground last time at Ayr.

Back on a sounder surface will help but I will think the jury is out over this 7f trip – especially at a stiff track like Carlisle.

He’s only won the once from 16 starts too and that came in a maiden in Ireland on the AW.

Therefore, is still to score in a handicap – so based on that and having been beaten in and around this mark, I’m not sure he’s great value around 5/2.

I’ll take something else to rain on Black Storm’s parade.

Note: Some picks can drift during the day (obviously we have no control of that) – but I’d say if they hit 8.0+ they are prob best left (for obvious reasons).
