Andy Newton Horse Racing: Today’s ‘NAP Of The Day’ Tip
3:40 Leopardstown – PIERRE BONNARD (NAP)
Last season’s G1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud winner but was clearly in need on his first run back in the Ballysax here at Leopardstown last month (watch below).
Was still sent off as the Evs jolly that day and is still around 8/1 for the Epsom Derby, so is still a player for the big Classic early next month.
But will, of course, need to win this to maintain that hope – which I think he can.
The slight niggle is that he’s been beaten both times here at Leopardstown, but both times were first time out.
So with that recent run under his belt I’ll take this Camelot colt to leave that opening run behind and give O’Brien a record extending 18th in this race.
We’ll then have to see if he can become the first winner of this prize since High Chapparal to go onto land the Epsom Derby.
Today’s Other ‘Muggy Favs’ Lucky 15 Horse Racing Tips
2:50 Longchamp – PUERTO RICO
This Aidan O’Brien Wootton Basset colt rounded off last season with three top wins that included two Group One successes at Longchamp and Saint-Cloud.
Those trips to France will be a big plus here as he heads across the Channel again and brings the best form into the race.
Yes, this will be his first run back since October, but as we saw last week at Chester many O’Brien runners are fully tuned-up first time and in a race like this we can expect Puerto Rico to be too.
Ryan Moore heads over for the ride and the pair took this pot 12 months ago with Henri Matisse – I expect more of the same.
4:25 Cork – DOCTOR DU MESNIL
Not one to totally rely on, but eased in grade this Willie Mullins runner should really be taking this.
Pulled up the last day in the Albert Bartlett at the Cheltenham Festival, but showed promise before that when running second to The Passing Wife at Punchestown.
That’s the best form on offer here and with two months to freshen up and Paul Townend riding he’s the obvious pick to get back to winning ways.
4:37 Ludlow – REGAL RENAISSANCE
Not many Ludlow meetings go by without a winner for Henry Daly and I think they can land another with this 8yold.
Sam Twiston-Davies rides and despite having a better record of coming 2nd over fences (5), she’s run well in defeat and is also a proven course winner here at Ludlow.
She’s won off this mark in the past too and won’t mind the ground.
A recent close second at Stratford will have her spot on for this and looking at the oppo, there doesn’t seem to be too much to fear baring the Skelton horse – Claim Du Brizias.
