Andy Newton Horse Racing NAP Of The Day Tip
2:05 Leicester – STRIKE RED
Strike Red was a fine 2nd in this race last season off 98 and is back rated just 86.
Meaning he’s 12lbs better off and connections have also booked Warren Fentiman to claim a further 3lbs.
He was runner-up in the Stewards’ Cup at Goodwood last season off 94 and is 8lbs lower than that run too.
However, a recent third at Newcastle would have him spot-on and so I think Red looks ready to Strike again.
With a top 4 place looking fair value around Evs – anything else is a plus.
Today’s Other ‘Muggy Favs’ Lucky 15 Horse Racing Tips
1:55 Navan – WEST OF EDEN
Only two of the 8 runners have been on the track before, so many unknowns.
However, what we do know is the Aidan O’Brien yard love this race.
Ballydoyle have mopped up ALL of the last four – including with Charles Darwin, who goes later on this card, and Camille Pissarro.
This 2yold is a No Nay Never colt that fetched €500k at he sales and can be expected to be well-forward for his debut.
Ryan Moore rides too and he’s been on all the mentioned four winners of this race for O’Brien recently.
West Of Eden can go North here on debut.
2:55 Sandown – THISTLE ASK
This could be a bit of a burn-up between Solness and the pick Thistle Ask – while the two-time winner of this race Jonbon is no mug either – ha!
But I just think there are reasons to take Jonbon on with – like his age, with only two winners aged 10 taking this race since 2001.
While his last four runs over 2m have seen four seconds.
Solness is a horse I like, but he’s better at Leopardstown and I’m not sure Sandown suits him.
Mirabad is out prove his recent Aintree win wasn’t a fluke.
But, for me, the safest call looks to be Thistle Ask, who has been freshened up with three months off – having missed both Cheltenham and Aintree.
He’s expected to get into a burn-up in the lead with Solness, but I feel the Sandown track could suit him perfectly (first run) if getting into his normal jumping rhythm.
Thistle Ask almost saw off Jonbon in the Clarence House last time over 2m1f too, but back slightly in trip, fresh and on better ground can be a big thorn in Jonbon’s side this time.
3:05 Navan – SCANDINAVIA (NB)
A race Aidan O’Brien has won a record 11 times and he’s taken to make it 12 with last season’s St Leger winner.
This promising stayer is still only 4 and looks set to have a big season ahead in the main cup races.
Having also landed the Goodwood Cup last season too.
Won first time out last season as well – when also winning at this venue in May, so we know the track is fine as well.
Ryan Moore, who has won the last four runnings of this race gets the leg-up.
Scandinavia is the call to freeze out his rivals again.
