Oisin Orr is having a day out at the seaside. Newport’s length-and-a-half win in the 4:57 Remembering Christine And Colin Brown Handicap at Redcar, at 2/1, completed a treble for the jockey after Raggaas (2:02) and Welbury (3:12) — and beat the 7/4 favourite Dubai Venture fair and square.
| Pos | Horse | Jockey | SP |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1st | Newport | Oisin Orr | 2/1 |
| 2nd | Dubai Venture | Joanna Mason | 7/4F |
| 3rd | Saratoga Gold | William Pyle | 12/1 |
The Race Story
Over Redcar’s marathon trip just shy of a mile and six furlongs, the lightly raced Newport — well backed from 5/2 in the morning into 2/1 at the off — outstayed them all for Iain Jardine, with Dubai Venture, the market’s choice, a length and a half back in second and 12/1 outsider Saratoga Gold plugging on for third.
The preview had flagged the winner’s profile precisely — “heads the market for Iain Jardine but is still lightly raced on the Flat after a long absence” — and the improvement duly came. Gemical was a non-runner. For Orr, a 176-mile trip from his Newmarket ride this morning looks well worth the diesel: three winners on one card.
Tipster Accountability
The bet itself missed. Our Redcar preview verdict was Dubai Venture “for the in-form Joanna Mason” and she could only chase the winner home — second at 7/4, losing wager. The value call Buxted Reel was out of the frame. That is two Redcar verdicts today filling the runner-up spot. No tracked tipsters from today’s review were involved.
Looking Ahead
One to go on Teesside: the 5:31 sprint finale, where French Affair — 13/8 in the morning and a preview best bet — attempts to give Jennie Candlish a double after Rosenpur’s nose verdict in the 3:47. Sean D Bowen rides the Goodwood winner against Masaban and Houndhill, both 9/2.
