Today’s Free Each Way Horse Racing Tips: Saturday 4th July, 2026
1:50 Sandown: SHAGRAAN
Last year’s winner Rumstar is respected, as is the classy Asfoora and recent CD winner Words Of Truth.
However, this trio are all drawn high and over this 5f track that can be a slight negative at times.
Backed up with 8 of the last 9 winners coming from stalls 6 or lower.
The last 5 winners were also all aged 5, so one horse that ticks both these stats is the Clive Cox runner Shagraan.
Yes, he’s got a small bit to find on these terms (rated 4lbs lower than Rumstar/Words Of Truth and 6lbs with Asfoora) but the low draw (1) can hopefully help on that score.
He was also 3rd in this race last year from stall 8 and three runs back was a good third to Night Raider at HQ in the G3 Palace House Stakes.
Rossa Ryan rides.
2:25 Sandown: TRIBAL CHIEF
A competitive field here, with many chances – including last year’s winner Classic and River King – both from the Hannon yard.
While Hard Endeavour and Liberty Lane are noted too at bigger prices.
But I like Tribal Chief here, for the in-form David Menuisier yard after two good thirds this season.
He took bronze in the Lincoln on his first run back in March and ran on well over 7f in the Victoria Cup at Ascot last time.
The step back up in trip is a big plus, as he tends to finish his races off well and the stiff Sandown final furlong should be right up his street too.
Saffie Osborne riding is the icing on the cake and draw 7 is perfect too.
Tribal is the call to be the ‘Chief’ here.
3:00 Sandown: ESTISSA
Sacred Ground can go well down in trip and with Ryan Moore riding – but he’s well found in the market now.
So the slightly better value looks to be this James Fanshawe runner with Oisin Murphy riding.
Murphy has won this race a few times recently too, while the form of her last win at Wolves looks fair.
The 3rd City Queen has won since and the 5th Symbol Of Majesty ran well (2nd) at Royal Ascot last month in the Sandringham.
3:15 Newmarket: PLAGUE DE HAVRE
After my birthday in the week – maybe I should be awarded the Old Newton Cup. However, but joking aside hopefully last year’s winner can do the business again.
Yes, Klassleader might be hard to topple and could be the classic group horse in a handicap.
But he’s little value and we’ve only seen 2 winning favourites in the last 23 runnings.
Of course, this race is also normally run at Haydock too. But there is no reason to think the pick won’t like it here at Newmarket.
Up 10lbs from last year makes life harder too and was behind Klassleader last time at York. But has a 9lb pull for around 5 lengths this time.
Plus has only had two runs this year, so should have more to come.
