Daryz Bidding To Become First French Winner Since 2010

There has not been a French winner of the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes since Byword for Andre Fabre in 2010 and Daryz is the short favourite here.

Francis-Henri Graffard’s horse won Europe’s richest flat race last season and is favourite in the Arc de Triomph betting odds to win that race again.

The classy four-year-old has already won two Group 1s in France so far this season and should be primed for this.

However, there is an element of doubt. Some of his British rivals will probably prefer the quick summer ground at Ascot more, but there’s no denying that he’s got all the class in the world.

Daryz winning the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes would give trainer Graffard just his second Royal Ascot winner.

Ombudsman Could Become Just Fourth Back-To-Back Winner

Only three horses have managed to win the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes twice and it’s not been done since Muhtarram in 1994/95.

And interestingly, it was a horse trained by John Gosden – so Ombudsman could give his trainer another dual-winner of the race.

The Gosden stable often does well in this race, with six wins over the years.

Ombudsman won this race by two lengths last season and there’s every chance he can follow up again.

His owners Godolphin also have a stellar record in the contest. No owner has won this illustrious Group 1 more times than the ‘Boys in Blue’ with six wins to their name.

He’s never finished outside of the top two in his 10-race career so far and it’s quite hard to see that changing as he’s almost guaranteed to be staying on late.

Everything went wrong for him in the race last year, he was short of room around 2f out but still managed to win comfortably.

See his impressive success below.
