Iron Honor Heads Full Preakness Field at Laurel as Incredibolt Joins 14-runner Line-Up

Iron Honor emerged as the 9-2 morning-line favorite when Monday evening’s draw set the field for the 151st Preakness Stakes at Laurel Park, where a full gate of 14 is now in place after Kentucky Derby sixth Incredibolt was also added to the line-up.

Iron Honor Expected To Be One Of The Preakness Stakes Favorites

The shape of the 151st Preakness Stakes became clearer on Monday evening when Iron Honor was installed as the 9-2 morning-line favorite and a full field of 14 was drawn for Saturday’s $2 million Classic at Laurel Park.

The Chad Brown-trained Gotham Stakes winner (watch below) landed post nine and heads an open renewal being staged at Laurel Park while Pimlico continues its redevelopment.

Brown will be looking for this third Preakness Stakes, after wins in 2022 (Early Voting) and 2017 (Cloud Computing).

Saturday’s Preakness will be run as race 13 on the card, at 7:01 p.m. ET over 1 3/16 miles.

Laurel’s Local Hope Draws the Rail

Maryland-based Taj Mahal gives the race an immediate home-track angle after drawing post one.

Brittany Russell’s unbeaten colt secured his Preakness berth by winning the Federico Tesio at Laurel in April (watch below).

And his local profile now puts him right at the center of Saturday’s story.

Ocelli, who finished third in the Kentucky Derby (see below) despite still being a maiden, drew post two and brings proven Classic form straight into the race.

Crupper, Robusta and Talkin all line up inside Chip Honcho, who starts from post six after remaining firmly on course for the middle jewel.

Incredibolt Deepens the Derby Carryover

The field also gained extra depth on Monday when Riley Mott confirmed that Kentucky Derby sixth Incredibolt would head to Maryland.

He has drawn post 12 and keeps Jaime Torres for the ride, giving the race another runner with recent Churchill Downs form.

Riley Mott will be trying to do what his hall-of-famer dad is yet to do – and win the Preakness.

That late addition matters because it turns what had been a fluid week of possibles into a settled line-up.

Plus Great White, Bull by the Horns and Pretty Boy Miah all made the final Preakness Stakes runners as well, leaving Saturday’s renewal with a full gate and several different form lines converging at once.
