Andy Newton Horse Racing: Today’s ‘NAP Of The Day’ Tip
6:15 Ripon MASABAN
This Ed Bethell runner went into mine and many others notebooks after a promising 6th last time out at Doncaster.
He stayed on well that day over 6f to suggest the step up to 1m here will be a good move.
While last season, when trained in Ireland by Dermot Weld, he ran in two hot maidens behind Constitution River and Pierre Bonnard – who are both leading fancies for the Derby.
So, with more improvement to come and only three career outings, I’ll take Masaban to get off the mark here.
Today’s Other ‘Muggy Favs’ Lucky 15 Horse Racing Tips
2:10 Market Rasen EDELAK
The Skelton team remain in red-hot form and they look to have another top chance of grabbing another winner here.
This 4yold is believed to have had some breathing issues on his last run at Aintree back in December and has had a wind op as a result.
Connections have clearly taken their time with this former Johnny Murtagh flat horse, but on this better ground and with five months to get over that last race can get off the mark over the sticks today.
Harry Skelton rides for the first time and the yard like this race too – winning the pot in 2018 and 2024.
5:45 Ripon RED SPELLS DANGER
The Tim Easterby yard are only 19-156 with their 3yolds here at Ripon, but should really be improving that stat here.
This gelding is 0-6 in his races but sets the standard still compared to the others in this contest.
He was last seen running 2nd at Southwell on the AW last month over 7f, but I think he’s not quite been seeing out that trip.
Therefore, the drop back to 6f looks a good move and David Allen is a plus back in the plate.
7:22 Ballinrobe MAJESTIC KING
Bolted up at Gowran Park just three days ago by 3 1/2 lengths and connections are clearly trying to strike again while he’s in-form.
Yes, the quick return is always a small worry and carries a 7lb penalty here.
Is also up slightly in trip but should be fine getting the extra 1 1/2 furlongs and Joey Sheridan remains in the saddle.
But won with a fair bit up his sleeve and so Majestic King should really be crowned the winner again today.
