Danny Mullins And Jack Kennedy To Ride In America On Saturday – NOT Ireland

Danny Mullins and Jack Kennedy will be swapping Killarney for Percy Warner Park on Saturday as they head to America to ride in the 3m Calvin Houghland Iroquois Stakes.

Why Are Danny Mullins and Jack Kennedy Not Riding In Ireland?

There’s a nice card at Killarney on Saturday which features a listed mares hurdle and the Killarney National but Danny Mullins and Jack Kennedy will not be riding there.

Instead, they will head to ride at Percy Warner Park with Irish horses on show there – and some ex-British horses too.

The Irish horse racing meetings are slightly quieter for jumps jockeys at this time of year, so you can’t blame them for taking this opportunity.

Gordon Elliott sends over ZANAHIYR who won the American Grand National at Far Hills back in October and Jack Kennedy will be riding him again.

As for Danny Mullins, he will ride JAMES DU BERLAIS who is having a first run for Leslie Young. Mullins is familiar with the horse considering he used to be trained by his uncle Willie at Closutton and he rode it a couple of starts ago.

FIL DOR, who was formerly trained by Elliott is also in the race and makes his second start for Richard Hendricks. He won on American debut in November, a month after finishing fifth in the American National behind former stablemate Zanahiyr.

Another ex-Irish horse in SWEET WILL also lines up. He was trained by Gavin Cromwell, then Emmet Mullins and Denis Hogan before being shipped off to America, joining Archibald Kingsley Jr.

Ex-British Horses Also Racing In America

Not only is it the ex-Irish trained horses in action, but there is some British representation on show as well.

ZABEEL CHAMPION used to be trained by Jonjo O’Neill, but has been with Jack Fisher for just over two years now.

And funnily enough, if you go back to November 2021, Zabeel Champion beat LYDFORD by a head at Leicester – and the pair are set to rematch here!

Ex-Richard Hannon in-mate ZIGGLE POPS also races, and he actually ran at Royal Ascot in the Britannia back in 2020. He finished 16th of 20 under Sean Leavy.

There are a number of other races taking place at Percy Warner Park, but in the UK we’re fairly limited to what we can see the day before online.

Any other information will be updated accordingly.
