Andy Newton Horse Racing: Today’s ‘NAP Of The Day’ Tip
2:35 Chester – CONSTITUTION RIVER (NAP)
Is around 16/1 for the Epsom Derby next month – so we’ll learn a lot here as he looks to be the first horse since Kris Kin (2003) to win the Dee Stakes and follow-up at Epsom.
Yes, the trip is an unknown, but on breeding should be getting at least this far – especially around a speed track like Chester.
Last seen winning the Futurity Stakes at the Curragh last August over 7f and can be expected to have improved further over the winter.
Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore love this race too, with 12 and 8 wins respectively.
Morshdi looks the main danger and we know this William Haggas runner will stay – winning the Feilden Stakes at HQ over 1m 1f well last time.
But as a result does have to give away 3lbs to the pick, which could be the difference.
So Constitution River is taken to sail home here.
Today’s Other ‘Muggy Favs’ Lucky 15 Horse Racing Tips
1:15 Huntingdon – LORIKO
Two-horse race here and probably not a lot between the two, so this is likely to turn into a tactical affair.
Loriko represents the in-form Dan Skelton yard, who have clearly picked up where they left off last season with a stack of winners already in the last few weeks.
Yes, this 5yold has been a bit disappointing too and is yet to win a race (8 runs) but has run some good races in defeat – notably when second to Kripticjim at Ascot back in November.
Harry Skelton rides and he’s taken to guide him to his first win.
4:40 Redcar – SONG OF THE CLOUDS (NB)
I thought this William Haggas runner did well on debut at Newbury (2nd) last month – having to was on the far side.
But stayed on well and would have learned bundles from that.
The step up in trip to a mile is an obvious plus and really even with some some improvement on that opening effort should be hard to beat today.
Song Of The Clouds can hit the right notes.
7:50 Redcar – MOHMENTOUS
This Ollie Sangster runner was a nice winner last time out at Bath – powering away by 3 3/4 lengths.
The danger is always the quick turnaround, with that race only eight days ago – but he did it well to suggest he can follow-up.
He’s also due to go up in the future, so even with his 6lb penalty is still 3lbs well-in here.
While with that recent win his first on the grass too, then there’s every reason he’ll improve for it as well.
