The season’s first Classic takes place this Saturday at Newmarket, but who won last year’s 2000 Guineas? See all you need to know about recent 2000 Guineas winners including the 2025 renewal.
2000 Guineas Winners – Who Won The Race Last Year?
Last year’s 2000 Guineas was won by RULING COURT for Charlie Appleby with William Buick in the saddle.
The Godolphin-owned horse won at odds of 9/2 and it was a third Guineas win in four years for trainer Appleby. He won it the year before that (2024) with Notable Speech too and in 2022 with Coroebus.
Ruling Court beat favourite Field Of Gold by half-a-length in a huge success for the yard.
Appleby and Buick would also combine for the 1000 Guineas the next day with Desert Flower.

Ruling Court didn’t win again after his success in the 2000 Guineas and he was a non-runner in the Epsom Derby.
He would not join the iconic list of horses that won the 2000 Guineas and Epsom Derby – with just four horses doing so since 1970.
The son of Justify was third in both the St James’s Palace at Royal Ascot and the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown.
And sadly, he passed away as a three-year-old following problems with a hoof disease called laminitis.

Godolphin Have Great Chance To Win ANOTHER 2000 Guineas
Last year’s winning connections once again have a solid chance at 2000 Guineas glory.
The yard will run both DISTANT STORM and KING’S TRAIL on Saturday at Newmarket.
Distant Storm was a Group 3 winner last year and wasn’t beaten far in the Dewhurst. Can relish the step up to a mile and is heavily respected.
They also have King’s Trail in the race and being by 2000 Guineas winner Sea the Stars, he also entitles respect like his stablemate.
King’s Trail has only raced twice and both were easy enough wins at Kempton. It’s worth noting he won the same Kempton race that Notable Speech did en route to winning the Guineas in 2024.
