83% Of the last 24 2000 Guineas Winners Drawn 12 or lower
The first trend to focus on in the 2026 2000 Guineas is the DRAW.
A striking 20 of the last 24 winners came from stall 12 or lower.
That still covers a fair chunk of the field – but dig a little deeper and the bias becomes even clearer.
Around 62.5% of the last 16 winners (10 in total) were drawn 6 or lower.
Yes, last year’s winner Ruling Court came from gate 11, but 4 of the last 5 winners were still housed between 1-6.
Then, zoom out slightly and 7 of the last 10 were drawn 9 or lower.
If you want to narrow things down further, stalls 1 and 3 have been particularly productive.
Between them, they’ve produced 9 of the last 24 winners (38%), including four of the last 10.

2000 Guineas Favourites Have A Poor Recent Record
It’s looking likely that last season’s Royal Lodge winner Bow Echo will go off as the 2000 Guineas favourite.
However, this could be a curse if he does.
Why?
Well, we’ve only seen ONE winning 2000 Guineas favourite win in the last 10 runnings.
This was Churchill back in 2017, who returned the 6/4 jolly.
While last year’s market leader Field Of Gold was second at 15/8.
Look for 2000 Guineas Runners That Won Last Time Out
Next, focus on horses arriving off the back of a win.
19 of the last 24 winners tick this box-that’s a 79% strike rate.
Even more telling, 23 of the last 24 winners finished in the top three on their previous start, although that stat naturally includes most of the field.
Most runners in 2026 will fit the bill here – but the well-fancied Godolphin runner Distant Storm doesn’t.
As he heads here having run third (Dewhurst) last time out.
But in his defence, it was a hot race and even that bronze is better form than most of the others.
Trainer John Gosden Have NEVER Won The 2000 Guineas

John Gosden Is Still To Win The 2000 Guineas
It’s one of those stats you double-check – but it’s true.
John Gosden has NEVER won the 2000 Guineas.
He’s gone close more than once, with horses like Roaring Lion, Raven’s Pass and Anshan hitting the frame, while Kingman was runner-up in 2014.
This year, he looks to break that duck with recent Craven Stakes winner Oxagon.
John Gosden 2000 Guineas Near Misses
- 2018 – Roaring Lion (5th)
- 2014 – Kingman (2nd)
- 2008 – Raven’s Pass (4th)
- 1990 – Anshan (3rd)
- 1992 – Muhtarram (5th)
What Are The Best 2000 Guineas Trial Races?
Oxagon announced himself with an impressive win in the Craven Stakes at Newmarket in April.
However, only one horse in recent times-Haafhd in 2004-has completed the Craven-Guineas double.
The Dewhurst Stakes has proven a stronger guide, with five winners of that two-year-old race going on to land the Guineas. The most recent was Chaldean in 2022.
Last year’s Dewhurst winner Gewan is sadly no longer with us, but the 2nd (Gstaad) and 3rd (Distant Storm) do run.
Another key trial is the Vincent O’Brien National Stakes.
Five winners of that race have gone on to take the Guineas in the last 24 runnings, including Churchill, Gleneagles, Dawn Approach, George Washington and Refuse To Bend.
But again, Zavateri, who won that race last season, is out of the Guineas, but the runner-up – the already mentioned Gstaad, does run.
Aidan O’Brien Has Won The 2000 Guineas Ten Times

No trainer has dominated this race quite like Aidan O’Brien.
The Ballydoyle master has racked up TEN wins in total.
His first came with King Of Kings in 1998, and his most recent with Magna Grecia in 2019.
That said, he’s currently on a six-year drought by his own lofty standards.
In 2025, he’s expected to rely on Breeders’ Cup winner Gstaad, who was supplemented on Monday – and two-time Group One winner Puerto Rico.

Godolphin (Charlie Appleby) Have Won Three Of The Last Four

Another key player is Godolphin, particularly under Charlie Appleby.
They’ve won three of the last four runnings and six in total.
Their first success came in 1996 with Mark Of Esteem, trained by Saeed bin Suroor and ridden by Frankie Dettori.
Last year, they struck again with Ruling Court, giving William Buick his second win in the race.
Following up from Notable Speech’s win in 2024.
They will be looking for a famous three-timer with Distant Storm.
The last trainer to win the 2000 Guineas three years on the spin was Aidan O’Brien (2017 to 2019)
