Andy Newton Horse Racing NAP Of The Day Tip

2:13 Pontefract – INFRAAD

This William Haggas runner was slightly disappointing last time at Nottingham (April) as a beaten favourite into third.

But that was only his second career run and also his first for 5 1/2 months.

So I expect a leap forward from that effort today, with Tom Marquand also back in the plate.

The other big plus is the stonking SR of the Haggas yard here at Pontefract – with a 42% return that increases to 52% (11-21) with just their 3yolds.

Today’s Other ‘Muggy Favs’ Lucky 15 Horse Racing Tips

2:40 Musselburgh – AS FAST AS WIND

Has been strutting her stuff over hurdles with credit recently but is back on the flat today with connections looking to have found a nice race for her.

The niggle is that she’s only won 2 of her 33 career starts (both codes) so has been a hard horse to catch right.

But will be fitter than most after those recent runs over the sticks.

She’s taken to live up to her name.

5:15 Southwell – TIMELY AFFAIR

One of several good rides for Oisin Murphy at Southwell today.

Heads here having taken two silvers at Kempton and here at Southwell the last day.

Up just a pound but I think the step back up to a mile is a plus being a CD winner back in January.

While the first-time cheekpieces can also hopefully eke out a bit more, plus is drawn well in gate 1.

I’ll take Murphy to judge things right on Timely Affair today.

6:05 Punchestown – GAELIC WARRIOR

Onto the biggest race of the day in what should be a must-see clash between the last two Cheltenham Gold Cup winners – Gaelic Warrior and Inothewayurthinkin and this season’s Irish Gold Cup hero Fact To File.

Cases can be made for them all, but it was hard to not be impressed with the way Gaelic Warrior won and he looks the safest call.

He’s won three times at Punchestown and seems okay on the better ground these days – don’t forget he won the Oaksey Chase on quicker ground this time last season.

It’s 2-2 in the H2H’s between Fact To File and Gaelic Warrior, but both F2F’s wins over GW have been at Leopardstown, where we know the McManus horse has the slight edge.

Unless the 2025 Gold Cup winner Inothewayurthinkin bounces back to form, Willie Mullins, who trains the main two, should be winning his eighth Punchestown Gold Cup.

But I think it will be with the Ricci colours and Gaelic to be a ‘Warrior’ yet again.
