ITV broadcasts racing at least once every week – most commonly on Saturdays – so there’s usually something for fans to look forward to.
However, coverage can rotate across the network, appearing on the main ITV channel, ITV3 or ITV4 depending on the fixture.
Major festivals such as the Cheltenham Festival and Royal Ascot are typically shown on the flagship ITV channel due to their popularity and prestige.

ITV Racing: This Week’s Live Meetings (6th April-12th April 2026) 📺
This week it’s a busy one for the ITV Racing team – with the three-day Aintree Grand National Meeting the big focus.
But before that – the team are showing 10 races on ITV Racing on Easter Monday – a mix from Fairyhouse, Kempton and Plumpton (see above).
The later in the week, the action at Liverpool gets going on Thursday, with six races live on ITV.
Including the Grade One Aintree Hurdle, where Champion Hurdle third The New Lion heads the betting.
Then on Friday, there are six more LIVE ITV Racing contests to look for at Aintree, with the Grade One Melling Chase one of the main events – a prize Jonbon has won for the last two seasons.
Saturday is the ‘big one’ with the 2026 Grand National at 4pm.
As last year’s winner Nick Rockett is back to try and defend his title and try and give trainer Willie Mullins a fourth win in the famous race.
On the final day, the ITV Racing team will also be showing other races that include the Grade One Liverpool Hurdle – a prize Gordon Elliott has won twice in the last four years.
Is The Opening Show On ITV Racing This Week and Saturday? 📺
Yes. The Opening Show airs at 9:30am will on this week on Thursday, Friday and Grand National Day on Saturday.
With the broadcast at Aintree racecourse each morning and hosted by Oli Bell.
This week’s programme comes live from Musselburgh with Leonna Mayor and the team at the Scottish track.

ITV Racing is available free-to-air on terrestrial television, with coverage rotating between ITV, ITV3 and ITV4.
Viewers can also stream live racing via ITVX on desktop, mobile or tablet, and catch up on missed action through the same platform.
Many leading betting sites also offer live streaming of races to customers who have placed a qualifying bet.
Some ITV races may additionally appear on the Sky Sports Racing schedule, depending on media rights agreements with specific racecourses.

The History Of ITV Racing 📜
UK terrestrial racing coverage was previously shared between the BBC and Channel 4.
That changed in January 2016 when Channel 4 lost the broadcasting rights after more than three decades.
ITV Racing officially launched in January 2017 and remains the UK’s only free-to-air television broadcaster dedicated to horse racing coverage.
Channel 4’s final day covering the sport came on 27th December 2016, featuring the Christmas meeting from Kempton Park and the Welsh Grand National from Chepstow.
