Reports are suggesting trainer Nicky Henderson has been very encouraged by a workout session from Altior over the weekend.
The 8-year-old had been out of action since December following breathing surgery, and has not raced this season. Despite this, the horse appeared to be in sparkling form:
“He was very, very impressive – brilliant. He moved sweetly, didn’t take a blow and he didn’t make any noises. I was very pleased. It was absolutely excellent – as good as ever.”

Given the progress the horse has seemingly made, Henderson is said to be considering entering him in the Game Spirit Chase at Newbury, next Saturday.
“If it was very soft at Newbury, he’d be very unlikely to run in the Game Spirit, but if it was very good, there’s a distinct possibility that he will.”

Altior has not lost a single race since April 2015, and his name on the running sheet will surely entice punters from far and wide. Winning last year’s race in that unbeaten run, Altior could make his arrival in the new season with what the horse has become used to – nothing but winning.
