Arrogate powers to Pegasus World Cup victory

Arrogate became the inaugural winner of the Pegasus World Cup on Saturday, taking home the £5.58million prize.

Jockey Mike Smith steered the super-horse to a five length victory with consummate ease.

The Breeders’ Cup Classic winner took his place in history as the first winner of the richest horse race in the world, held at Gulfstream Park in Florida.

He went head-to-head with California Chrome once again but this time he was much too good.

Trainer Bob Baffert declared his delight for Arrogate. He said:

I’m so relieved. It’s great to be here. I never thought I’d be here in a $12m race. I’m a little emotional.

Arrogate took the race just a few days after being awarded the Longines Horse of the Year award with a rating 134.

California Chrome retired post race.
