REDCAR, 8 August — Another race, another beaten jolly. Raggaas, the 15/8 second favourite from the Simon and Ed Crisford yard, won the seven-furlong Watch Racing TV Maiden Stakes (14:02) under O J Orr, with the 4/7 favourite Yimmna — this morning’s preview pick — beaten into second under Cieren Fallon. If you’re keeping count at home, that’s the second odds-on shot beaten inside a quarter of an hour, after Brighton View’s defeat at Haydock.

The Race Story
The market had this down as a two-horse race — Yimmna at 4/7, Raggaas at 15/8, the other six at double-figure prices — and for once the market read the race right, just in the wrong order. Orr’s mount came out on the winning side of the argument in a sharp 1m 24.51s on the fast ground, with Fallon’s odds-on favourite having to settle for the runner-up spot maidens are supposed to be a formality for. War And Love, a 10/1 shot under Ben Robinson, was the best of the rest in third.
The Crisford operation doesn’t send horses to the North East for the sea air; Raggaas looks a name to note when he steps into a nursery or novice company off this.
Tipster Accountability
Richard Gore’s verdict in the Redcar preview — “Yimmna to get off the mark” — went down with the 4/7 favourite, his second beaten pick of the early afternoon. None of the four tracked ledger tipsters had public money at Redcar: Templegate’s NAP, next best and treble are all Ascot-bound today, as covered in the Templegate review.
Looking Ahead
Redcar continues with the 15:12 straight-mile handicap — the preview takes Welbury, with Nyman the each-way alternative — before the day’s headline sprint at 15:47, where Democracy Dilemma is expected “to dominate from the front”. Race-by-race verdicts are in the Redcar preview.
