Best Odds Guaranteed Handicap Result: Man Of Vision by a Nose

Man Of Vision won the 4:14 William Hill Best Odds Guaranteed Handicap at Newmarket by the shortest margin in the book — a nose — at 7/2, getting his head back in front on the line after being passed inside the final hundred yards. Backers of 5/2 favourite Runswick never had a moment: he finished last of six.

2nd Go Rimbaud Robert Havlin 6/1
3rd Drymee Ashley Lewis 10/3

The Race Story

Toby Moore sent the Charlie Appleby-trained gelding straight on, stretched the field over a furlong out, then looked beaten when Go Rimbaud swept past for the Gosdens near the finish. Man Of Vision rallied, pressed the leader and led again exactly where it mattered — on the post — in 1m 37.85s. Drymee kept on for third, three quarters of a length further back.

Returning from over nine months off, Man Of Vision justified the preview’s suspicion that an Appleby three-year-old on a mark in the 80s is dangerous — it just applied the logic to the wrong race. Luzon Heights was a non-runner.

Tipster Accountability

Our Newmarket preview made Drymee the verdict — “the progressive one in the race” — at 15/8 in the morning. He drifted to 10/3 and was beaten a nose and three quarters of a length into third: close, but a losing bet. The value call Looka was out of the frame, and market leader Runswick bombed. No tracked tipsters in today’s review were involved.

Looking Ahead

Newmarket wraps up with the 5:23 William Hill Price Boosts Apprentice Handicap over a mile and six, where the preview’s verdict is 15/8 chance Jack Langley — “can resume winning ways for his young rider” — for the in-form Charlie Clover yard. Earlier, Arctic Dawn denied Castle Rock in the 3:40.
