Deauville saved its biggest bombshell of the day for the 4:42 (UK time) Listed Prix Isola Bella: Canneza, dismissed at 51/1, swooped under Pierre-Charles Boudot to floor a field of ten fillies and mares — comfortably the longest-priced winner of the meeting so far.

The Race Story
On a soft-ground afternoon that has been merciless to fancied runners, the seven-and-a-half-furlong Listed contest on the straight course completed the set. Canneza, trained by L Blanchet and barely mentioned in the morning market, ran down Abbey Road — Cristian Demuro’s bid for a quick double after the Prix Michel Houyvet — with the unconsidered Just A Girl back in third.
It continues a remarkable Deauville card for outsiders: Montgaudry landed the Quinté at 22/1, Mazzala and Mayra both scored at double-figure prices, and now Canneza has topped the lot at 51/1. Boudot, meanwhile, adds a Listed success to a meeting that keeps rewarding the professionals who ride the straight track best.
Tipster Accountability
No dressing this one up: our Deauville preview sided with Dachkova “to break through at Listed level” and she missed the first three, as did the value calls La Mandala and Sonatine. After the preview’s verdict had landed in the 4:07 with Victoire Magique, the card’s wild streak bit back. None of the tracked tipsters in today’s review play the French races, so the ledgers are untouched.
Looking Ahead
One race remains on this glorious card: the 5:15 Prix de Crepon, a 16-runner handicap finale in which the preview likes Haditouni for Mikael Barzalona to defy the handicapper again — with the historical edge to high draws on the straight course. Then it is all eyes on Sunday’s Group 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest. Earlier, Mayra denied the Fabre favourite in the Prix des Marettes.
