When Is Glorious Goodwood 2026?
Much like Royal Ascot, the Glorious Goodwood fixture spans five full days of top-tier action, running from Tuesday to Saturday.
Universally celebrated as the most scenic racecourse in the UK, the West Sussex track sits nestled in rolling countryside just seven miles north of Chichester and ten miles from the coastal resort of Bognor Regis.
For 2026, the midsummer highlight takes place from Tuesday 28th July through Saturday 1st August.

Glorious Goodwood History
Goodwood Races
Glorious Goodwood is one of Britain’s oldest and most celebrated horse racing festivals, with its roots stretching back to the early 19th century.
Racing first took place on the South Downs at Goodwood in 1802 after Charles Lennox, the 3rd Duke of Richmond, laid out a course on his estate.
The meeting quickly established itself as one of the highlights of the Flat racing season, attracting aristocrats, leading owners and the best horses from across Britain.
By the middle of the 19th century, Goodwood had earned a reputation for combining top-class racing with elegant social occasions, a tradition that continues today.
Originally known simply as the Goodwood Race Meeting, the fixture gradually became affectionately known as “Glorious Goodwood” thanks to its picturesque setting and the high-quality racing on offer.
Staged over five days in late July or early August, the meeting has become famous for prestigious contests such as the Sussex Stakes, Goodwood Cup, Nassau Stakes and the Stewards’ Cup.
Horse Racing Legends Have Graced The Goodwood Winners’ Enclosure
Many of the sport’s greatest horses have graced the Sussex Downs, while legendary jockeys and trainers, including Lester Piggott, Sir Gordon Richards, Frankie Dettori and Sir Michael Stoute, have all enjoyed memorable success at the festival.
Today, Glorious Goodwood remains one of the standout events in the British racing calendar, blending history, tradition and elite competition.
Its unique location, overlooking the rolling Sussex countryside, provides one of the most scenic racecourses in the world and helps create an atmosphere unlike any other major meeting.
