Newmarket Horse Racing Tips On Thursday 9th July 2026: Godolphin To Make Bookies Feel ‘Blue’

13:50 NEWMARKET (JULY) Bahrain Trophy Stakes (Group 3) Cl1 (3yo) 1m5f ITV

The Queen’s Vase form is on show here, with the second Del Maro, fourth Point Of Law and sixth Galiyan all back for more.

And really there is no reason to think that form can’t be upheld with DEL MARO coming out on top again.

This Godolphin runner only went down by a nose at Ascot (1st Limestone) and with Point Of Law (1 1/2) and Galiyan (3 lengths) back they have to find some improvement.

The Bahrain Trophy is also a prize trainer Charlie Appleby has won three times in the last five – with William Buick on two of the last three.

Of the rest, the top-rated Alderman for the Richard Hannon yard, might be over-priced and will be fresher than most having missed Royal Ascot.

But providing that last race battle hasn’t left a mark, Del Maro is the call to go one better than Ascot.

🥇DEL MARO
🥈Alderman
🥉Galiyan

14:25 NEWMARKET (JULY) Kingdom Of Bahrain July Stakes (Group 2) Cl1 (2yo) 6f ITV

Just the four runners here in what is a disappointing turnout.

Adaay Of Scarlett will be advertising the Coventry Stakes form, having run second in that race last time, but with the 6th (Confucius) having been beaten since – then that Ascot form is starting to have some question marks.

Hickory Lad is yet to finish out of the first two (2 wins) and was impressive when winning at Epsom last time so could easily outrun his odds.

But the least exposed runner is Godolphin’s INNER CITY BLUES, who will be looking to give trainer Charlie Appleby a first July Stakes win.

This Blue Point colt caught the eye of many when scooting up on debut at York and with the second Stardom Glory and Conciliate winning since – the form looks rock solid.

He also holds Gimcrack and National Stakes entries for later in the season.

The Appleby yard also boasts an impressive 38% SR with their 2yolds at this track, so Inner City Blues is the call to go to ‘town’ here.

🥇INNER CITY BLUES
🥈ADAAY OF SCARLETT
🥉HICKORY LAD

15:00 NEWMARKET (JULY) Betway Handicap (Heritage Handicap) Cl2 (3yo 0-105) 6f ITV

Recent York scorer Thunder Call (likely favourite) had Red Spells Danger just 1/2 a length behind that day and so there shouldn’t be a lot between the two again here.

But this race hasn’t been a good one for the market leaders, with just one winning in the last 20 runnings.

It’s also interesting that 9 of the last 11 winners came from stalls 8+, so Thunder Call’s 7 berth might be a negative too.

CD winner Sea Cookie is 2-2 since being gelded and having a wind op and has to be noted up 5lbs, but Jack Callan takes off 3lbs.

But the two I think are interesting are CALICO BLUE and TEN CARAT HARRY, who finished 4th and 3rd in the Palace Of Holyroodhouse Handicap at Royal Ascot last time.

Both are drawn well in 9 and 8, plus ran on well that day over 5f to suggest this extra furlong (6f) will be perfect.

Off the same marks as last time the pair have been given the same chance and with the easy US winner that day Bacio not entered their chance will be made easier.

🥇TEN CARAT HARRY
🥈CALICO BLUE
🥉SEA COOKIE

15:35 NEWMARKET (JULY) Princess Of Wales’s Stakes (Sponsored By The Kingdom Of Bahrain) (Group 2) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m4f ITV

Convergent is a horse I like, but he’s not been the most consistent and need to bounce back from being well beaten at Epsom last time.

I also feel the much firmer ground with him here is a slight unknown.

Almeric and Tenability can’t be ruled out, but you feel they will both need to find a bit more to figure – especially as the globetrotting £12m horse REBEL’S ROMANCE is in attendance.

Godolphin’s 8yold will be having his 32nd run – but has won a remarkable 21 of these and showed at the end of February that he’s still loving his racing – when winning the Dubai City Of Gold at Meydan.

He’s been freshened up since with this race in mind and it’s another the ‘boys in blue’ of Godolphin like – they’ve won 5 of the last 12.

Yes, he’s got to give 3lbs away too, but is still rated 122 and 4lbs clear of Convergent and I think the more solid option to give his runner.

The last 8yold to win the Princess Of Wales’s Stakes was Cavalryman and he was owned by Godolphin.

I’m happy to carry on the love affair with Rebel’s Romance.

🥇REBEL’S ROMANCE
🥈CONVERGENT
🥉TENABILITY
