Neat can push through the $1 million career-earnings mark in Sunday’s Grade 3 Kelso Stakes at Saratoga, with trainer Rob Atras sending the five-year-old into a deep one-mile turf field from post four.
The Red White and Blue Racing and CMNWLTH runner goes into the $225,000 contest on $999,110, according to NYRA’s G3 Kelso advance, after returning to winning form in the Cliff Hanger at Monmouth Park on May 30.
Reylu Gutierrez keeps the ride on the Constitution chestnut, whose three graded victories in 2024 included the Grade 2 National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame over the same Saratoga course and distance.
Why The Kelso Matters
The Kelso is not a soft landing. Zulu Kingdom, Pass the Hat and Capitol Hill bring Grade 3 Poker form into the race, while Cosmic Year renews rivalry with Neat after finishing a neck behind him at Monmouth.
Atras has described Neat as talented but tricky, noting that Gutierrez’s confidence on him makes a difference around the turns. That detail matters at Saratoga, where tactical speed and position can decide a turf mile before the stretch battle begins.
For Neat, the immediate prize is graded confirmation after a stop-start 2025. For Atras, Sunday offers a chance to turn a near-millionaire into a headline older-turf player again.
