Wesley Ward Horse No Doubt About It Euthanized Before Saratoga Opening Day

Wesley Ward-trained No Doubt About It has been euthanized at Saratoga Race Course’s Oklahoma training track, days before the New York venue opened its expanded 46-day summer meet on Friday, July 3.

The three-year-old gelding, bred in Ireland, suffered a right hind tibia injury after flipping over and was unable to bear weight once back on his feet, according to the state Gaming Commission database cited by the Times Union report on the Saratoga fatality.

No Doubt About It had made one career start, winning a Turfway Park maiden by five lengths on March 6, and was in training for one of America’s most high-profile summer circuits.

Saratoga begins under welfare scrutiny

The timing makes the case particularly sensitive for NYRA and state regulators. Saratoga’s 2026 meet begins with a longer 46-day programme running through Labor Day, while the Times Union reported the gelding’s death was the fourth at a NYRA facility in less than a week.

It also comes with heat concerns around opening weekend. The state Gaming Commission reminded operators this week that dangerous local conditions can require racing to be cancelled to protect horses and riders.

For Ward, the loss removes a lightly raced winner from the stable. For Saratoga, it adds an immediate welfare issue to a meeting that will be watched closely from its first card.
