Monmouth Park has cancelled its Friday, July 3 live racing card because of excessive heat, with the New Jersey track remaining open for simulcasting.
The Oceanport venue confirmed the change on its official homepage on Friday, adding another weather-driven interruption to the US racing schedule during a difficult July 4 weekend for operators, horsemen and bettors.
The decision removes live racing from the Friday programme but does not shut the facility entirely. Monmouth said the track is still open for simulcasting, while its weekend fan plans remain in place with free admission advertised for Saturday, July 4 and Sunday, July 5.
Weekend Disruption Before Haskell Build-Up
The cancellation lands two weeks before Monmouth’s marquee NYRA Bets Haskell Day on Saturday, July 18, and follows a run of heat-related changes across North American racing this week.
For Monmouth, the practical impact is immediate: Friday racegoers lose the live card, horsemen must wait for revised opportunities, and bettors are redirected to simulcast action rather than the local programme.
The decision also keeps the weekend focus on conditions and horse welfare, with racetracks balancing public holiday crowds against safety thresholds for horses, riders and staff.
The track’s official notice states that Monmouth Park cancelled Friday racing because of excessive heat, while confirming the facility remains open for simulcasting.
