Effusive, the two-year-old Into Mischief filly out of dual Eclipse Award champion Monomoy Girl, is being readied for a likely July debut by Brad Cox after another sharp Keeneland workout.
The Spendthrift Farm homebred breezed four furlongs in company in 47.40 seconds on June 25, with Irad Ortiz Jr aboard for the move, according to Paulick Report.
Cox has not named a race or track for the filly yet, but the timing matters.
Effusive is the second foal out of Monomoy Girl, whose race record included the 2018 Kentucky Oaks, two Breeders’ Cup Distaff victories and a $9.5 million sale to Spendthrift after her 2020 championship season.
Effusive adds another layer to Monomoy Girl legacy
Monomoy Girl’s first foal, Provenance, already gave the family an early boost by winning at Santa Anita before finishing third in the Grade 3 Los Alamitos Futurity.
Effusive now gives Cox a familiar but delicate project. The trainer told Paulick Report that he did not want to say too much about an unraced horse, but added that the filly appears to have talent and has taken steps forward through spring and summer.
The family connection is the hook, but the work pattern is the substance. Eight workouts in 60 days at Keeneland suggests Cox is building towards a proper starting point rather than simply floating a pedigree story into the summer programme.
For Spendthrift, a July debut would turn one of the most watched broodmare pages in America into an active racecourse storyline again.
