The track announced the switch on Tuesday, with the 10-race card now due to start at 2.10pm local time on Monday. There will be no live racing at Horseshoe Indianapolis on Wednesday as originally scheduled.
The decision affects both Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse participants, and comes as racecourses across North America continue to adjust programmes around extreme summer weather. Heat-index readings in the area are expected to climb above 104F on Wednesday.
Safety Call Keeps The Card Intact
Eric Halstrom, vice-president and general manager of racing, said officials had been monitoring conditions that could prove unsafe for participants before agreeing the move with horsemen.
Halstrom said the track wanted to protect team members, horsemen and horses while still preserving racing opportunities, particularly for those working outdoors during the live programme.
The change means the meeting is postponed rather than cancelled, giving connections a revised date instead of losing the card completely. It also gives trainers, riders and stable staff more certainty than a late raceday call-off, with entries and travel plans now able to move around the Monday slot. Full details of the switch were published by Thoroughbred Daily News.
