Wolfie’s Dynaghost Retired By Brian Lynch After Record Fort Lauderdale Run

Wolfie’s Dynaghost has been retired from racing after trainer Brian Lynch confirmed on June 25 that an old soft-tissue issue had resurfaced during preparations for his next start.

The eight-year-old Ghostzapper gelding leaves the track as a North American record-holder and three-time graded stakes winner, having produced his career-defining performance in the Fort Lauderdale Stakes at Gulfstream Park last December.

On that day, the Woodslane Farm homebred completed the 1 1/8-mile Grade 3 turf contest in 1:43.42, a time reported by BloodHorse as the fastest ever recorded for the distance in North American racing on any surface.

Record-breaker bows out

Wolfie’s Dynaghost returned this year with a fifth-place finish in the Canadian Turf Stakes at Gulfstream on February 28, then worked six times between Palm Meadows and Keeneland before the setback changed the plan.

Lynch said the injury was not major, but that retirement was the right call at this stage of the gelding’s career. He also described Wolfie’s Dynaghost as an “ultimate professional” and a horse who consistently lifted himself on race day.

His final record stands at 14 wins, three seconds and five thirds from 33 starts, with earnings of $1,354,992. Alongside the Fort Lauderdale, his graded wins included the Autumn Stakes at Woodbine, while he also captured the Prince George’s County Stakes at Laurel Park in 2025.

The Kentucky-bred, Virginia-certified gelding is now back at the Woolcott family’s Virginia farm, with Lynch indicating his temperament could suit a second career if connections decide to retrain him.
