Field Of Gold scratched from Queen Anne Stakes by John & Thady Gosden
  • Last year’s dual Group 1 winner won’t run at Royal Ascot
  • Was last seen bleeding at Sandown
  • Unknown whether we will see him again this season

Field Of Gold has been scratched from the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot by John & Thady Gosden with the four-year-old now missing his second Group 1 engagement of the season.

Gosdens Scratch Field Of Gold from Queen Anne Stakes

FIELD OF GOLD will miss Royal Ascot after he was scratched from the Queen Anne Stakes by his trainers John & Thady Gosden.

The son of Kingman was also due to run in the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes at Newbury earlier this month, but he was found to have a bacterial infection so he didn’t line up.

He didn’t run badly on reappearance in the bet365 Mile when second to front-running winner Opera Ballo. However, vets reported after the race that the cold bled from the nose, which wasn’t a good sign.

It seems his two Group 1 wins as a three-year-old couldn’t be further in the past and nothing has gone right for him since that success at Royal Ascot last season.

He was narrowly denied in the English 2000 Guineas before winning the Irish equivalent a few weeks later. The world was at his feet that day at the Curragh, and he was very impressive in the St James’s Palace at Ascot.

But things went downhill after that. He was a beaten favourite in the Sussex Stakes and the Queen Elizabeth II and hasn’t won since last year’s Royal meeting.
