ITV Racing Haydock Trixie Tips On Saturday

See my three Haydock tips below where I’ll be combining them for a WIN Trixie and level-stake singles.

1:45pm Haydock – Hedge Of Oaks Stakes (Listed, 1m 2 1/2f): SPARKS FLY

The key to SPARKS FLY is softer ground and I’m hopeful that if the going doesn’t change too much then David Loughnane’s charge has a great chance here.

Conditions have been against him on both starts this season, a combination of ground and trip so I think this race could be perfect for him.

Despite the quick ground at Chester a couple of weeks ago, he ran very well behind last season’s Epsom Derby winner Lambourn. Only beaten two lengths, he should go well here back down in grade with a softer surface.

He’s won at Haydock before too, so that’s always a bonus as we know the track suits him. Laura Pearson gets back in the saddle and has steered him to victory on 10 of his 12 career wins.

2:58pm Haydock – Sandy Lane Stakes (Group 2, 6f): SPICY MARG

SPICY MARG receives weight from all of her rivals being the only filly in the line-up and I think that might be the key difference in what looks a trappy race.

She didn’t quite stay the mile in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket earlier this month and actually didn’t run that bad at a big price.

I like the fact that connections have opted to step back down in trip here and Oisin Murphy is an eye-catching jockey booking, riding her for the first time.

She’s got a Commonwealth Cup entry at Royal Ascot so it seems she’ll be sticking to sprinting. Won on her last attempt at 6f and she looks overpriced here.

3:30pm Haydock – Temple Stakes (Group 2, 5f): SHAGRAAN

The final selection in my Haydock tips is course-and-distance scorer SHAGRAAN in the Temple Stakes.

He ran well on his first run since returning to Clive Cox’s stable and was third behind Night Raider at Newmarket on Guineas weekend.

I think he can reverse that form here on softer ground, he’s got three lengths to make up but he likes it at Haydock and should handle conditions better than most.

With that run under his belt, I’m hoping Rossa Ryan can have him in a nice position to pounce late. He’s drawn well in stall six too so that’s another plus.

Haydock Tips – Saturday 23rd May 2026

  • 1:45pm – SPARKS FLY 11/2 (Win Single)
  • 2:58pm – SPICY MARG (EW Single)
