Joseph O’Brien Duo Top The Chester Cup Betting Odds Market 2026

A lot can change between now and the 2026 Chester Cup on Friday 8th May – but as it stands the betting market is being propped up by two Joseph O’Brien runners.

The Irish handler could send over GALILEO DAME and PUTURHANDSTOGETHER to the Roodee this month – and both will have plenty of backers.

Galileo Dame was 6th in the Mares Novices’ Hurdle at the 2025 Cheltenham Festival and would have caught the eye of many after a recent second at Navan over 1m6f on the level.

She’s only up 3lbs for that win and having gone close over 2m4f over hurdles will have no issues with the Chester Cup trip.

Puturhandstogether is the other possible Chester Cup runner for Joseph O’Brien – who is also owned by JP McManus.

This 5yold was down the field in the BetMGM Cup at Cheltenham in March.

But was a winner when last seen on the flat – which came at the Curragh in September.

He’s only raced seven times on the level (2 wins) and has finished in the top three on five occasions.

Harry Davies Has Won The Last Two Chester Cups

In terms of jockeys for the Chester Cup in recent years – Harry Davies has been the main to follow.

The young rider has landed the last TWO Chester Cups, so if getting the leg-up on 2026 will be looking for a famous treble.

Davies won the race on Zoffee in 2024, who is trained at Michael Owen’s Manor House Stables (Hugo Palmer).

Then followed up in 2025 on the James Owen-trained East India Dock.

The only other jockey to win the Chester Cup three years in-a-row was Sam Darling in 1831, 32 and 33.

Did You Know? 14 Of The 23 Chester Cup Winners Came From Stalls 6 Or Lower

Despite being run over 2m2f, the Chester Cup is run on the tight turns of the Roodee and so a low draw has still been a plus.

This is backed up with the Chester Cup trends that tell us 14 of the last 23 (61%) of winners hailed from gates 6 or lower.

Last year’s winner ticked this stat again too, when East India Dock powered home from post position 6.

He joined Magic Circle, the 2018 winner, who also won from gate 6.

Only One Winning Chester Cup Favourite Since 2016

Last year (2025) favourite backers were rewarded when East India Dock won as the 9/4 favourite.

However, prior to his win – the market leaders have struggled.

With no winning market leader since Mamlook in 2010.

In fact, since 1970 there have only been FIVE winning Chester Cup favourites.
