David O’Meara Still Dreaming Of Arc De Triomphe With Estrange

After scoping dirty and missing the race last year, David O’Meara hopes that Estrange will make the Arc De Triomphe this season.

David O’Meara Reveals Arc De Triomphe Plans For Estrange

Estrange had a brilliant four-year-old campaign last season and connections were dreaming of winning the Arc De Triomphe at Longchamp.

Those hopes were dented when she scoped dirty and was forced to miss the race worth millions.

She recorded wins at Listed, Group 3 and Group 2 level before becoming finishing second twice in Group 1 company.

Running hugely promising races in both the Yorkshire Oaks and Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes, connections were able to dream about an Arc.

And according to trainer O’Meara, that’s her target once again this season.

He was speaking to the Racing Post:

She (Estrange) went back to her owners at Cheveley Park for 6-8 weeks and the team there have done a great job. She’s come back looking really well and I may well start her where I did last year.

She wants to be keeping away from very quick conditions, but good ground is okay and good-to-soft is probably slightly better.

I’d love to go for the Arc in the autumn. She had a dicky scope last season and everything has to be spot on for a race like that. I think we’ll run her against her own sex until then and it’s lovely to have an older mare like her in the team.

Haydock Could Be Estrange’s Starting Point Again

Estrange was an easy winner of the Lester Piggott Fillies’ Stakes at Haydock last season on her reappearance. It seems like O’Meara is looking to send her there again this time around.

Then, she may look to retain her crown in the Lancashire Oaks. A certain Alpinista won that same race at Haydock for Sir Mark Prescott before winning the Arc as a five-year-old the following year.

Estrange currently holds just one entry and that is in the Group 2 Middleton Fillies’ Stakes at York on 14th May. Bluestocking won that race in the same season she won the Arc in 2024.

There’s still plenty to look forward to with this mare, who has finished outside of the top two just once in her career.
