Midlands Grand National Trends: Favourites Don’t Have Great Records

If you are looking to back the Midlands Grand National favourite – you might want to think twice.

There have only been THREE winning jollies in the last 22 go in.

While just one in the last 10 runnings – which was Time To Get Up in 2021.

At this stage, the market leader looks to be the Emmet Mullins-trained J’Arrive De L’Est.

Look For Horses Carrying 10-12 Or Less and Aged 9 or Younger

Next up to to look for horses carrying 10-12 or less, as 18 of the last 22 winners had ticked this stat.

While horses aged 9 or younger have also fared well – winning 20 of the last 22.

With 12 of the last 15 aged 8 or 9 (80%).

Meaning those at the head of the card (top 9) – Alcedo, J’Arrive De L’Est, Jupiter Allen, Git Maker, Aworkinprogress, Isaac Des Obeaux, Collectors Item, Deafening Silence, My Immortal and Rock My Way, have this weight stat to overcome.

While the horses aged 10+ in the race are My Immortal, Git Maker and Sporting Ace.

Irish-Trained Horses Have Won Just 3 Of The Last 22

We saw an Irish-trained winner in 2022, when the William Durkan-trained Screaming Colours won.

However, in the last 22 runnings, the Irish have only won the Midlands Grand National three times.

This year’s Irish runners are My Immortal, J’Arrive De L’Est and Bodhisattva.
