Sun Maiden has routed the field in the Smith & Williamson Fillies’ Novice Stakes at Salisbury.
The 3-year-old prospect was competing in only her second race, and recorded her first career win.
Running in another Fillies’ Novice Stakes before Christmas, trainer Sir Michael Stoute left a sizeable gap before trying the mare again.

With the Investec Oaks on the horizon, the race at Salisbury was considered to be a warm-up for Sun Maiden. However, with such a convincing victory, some bookies have now halved her chances in the Oaks from 20-1 to 10-1.
By the time she reached the line, the phenom was 12 lengths clear of her nearest pursuer.
Another entry in the Epsom Classic means that all the signs point towards a special summer for this talented horse.
