Ruby Walsh aiming for return to racing in May
Ruby Walsh has revealed that he is aiming to be back racing next month at Auteuil after breaking his leg earlier in the year, according to a report on Sky Sports.
Walsh broke his leg for the second time in as many months when he fell off Al Boum Photo during the Cheltenham Festival.
Walsh was rumoured to be fit and ready to race in last week’s Punchestown Festival but his fitness was not good enough to allow him to race.
However, the signs have been good ever since he picked up the injury and his recovery process has gone very well.
The jockey has now set his sights on being fit in time for the Grand Steeple weekend in France which takes place on May 19th and 20th.
Speaking about his comeback, Walsh said:
I’d love to make May 19 in Auteuil, but that will be up to my surgeon. He wouldn’t let me ride at Punchestown, so I’ll go back to him in a few weeks and see what he says.
Walsh has cooperated very well with his medical team and has trusted their verdict on his injury. He is hoping that he is given the green light to race once again but must wait a few weeks before a final decision is made.
