Robbie Power defends Paul Townend after bizarre collision

Robbie Power has jumped to the defence of fellow jockey Paul Townend after he caused a huge collision during the Punchestown Festival, according to a report on the Racing Post.

Townend seemed to steer his horse into Power and his mount Finian’s Oscar before the final fence of the Growise Champion Novice Chase.

Townend has since been handed a 21-day ban for his actions but Power has defended him, saying that it was just an error that anyone could make.

Power reacted to the incident in a blog and on Twitter, where he wrote:

It’s taken me a few hours to calm down from that very unfortunate incident at Punchestown with Paul Townend. Nobody feels worse than him it was just human error. He just got a brain freeze.

Townend has still not commented on the incident but it is understood that the jockey is hugely upset with what happened.

Townend was found guilty of dangerous riding and gave up his riding fee following the incident.

Power has no doubt that Townend will be back racing soon and will be challenging for more wins.

He will be required to be mentally tough over the next few weeks as he is forced to miss out because of the ban.
