Cue Card, who was expected to bow out at Sandown next week, has been retired early due to looking lame in his latest workouts.
Tizzard’s popular 12-year-old notched up some valuable prizes in his long and lustrous career, which included a number of grade one victories, a King George Chase, a Champion Bumper winner, three Betfair Chases and a King Edward VI Chase.

When speaking to At The Races, Joe Tizzard said:
We’ve taken the decision this morning to retire Cue Card. He wasn’t working quite as well as he can and we didn’t want to take him to Sandown if we weren’t 100% happy with him.
He added:
We will still take him to Sandown to parade him and to celebrate his great career. He has been an incredible horse for us and now he can look forward to a new chapter in his life.
The classy chaser was winner of 16 races in his 41 starts, also providing a healthy return of just over £1.4million in prize money for the stable.
However, it is a sad day in the racing world and for all of the connections of the high-regarded Cue Card, he will be sincerely missed. Happy retirement, legend.
