Cheltenham hero Tiger Roll set for the Grand National

Tiger Roll, who won the Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase at the Cheltenham Festival looks set for the Grand National in eight days time.

Elliott, who this week overtook arch-rival Willie Mullins in the Trainers’ Championship confirmed that Tiger Roll will be joined by stable-mates Ucello Conti and Bless The Wings, who will fly the flag for Gigginstown on Merseyside.

He said, via the Racing Post:

Tiger Roll is in very good form and I couldn’t be happier with him. I think he’ll love the National, and you need a lot of luck and for everything to go right, but I think the race will suit him.

The eight-year-old looks set to be one of the horses at the top of the market come flag fall, after his fantastic performance in the Cross Country. Jockey Davy Russell – who has been in sublime form this season – will be given the ride on him for the first time in four years.

Elliott, who will be looking for a second success in the Randox Health Grand National, also went on to confirm that he will be concentrating more on the Punchestown Festival, rather than the Aintree meet.

He said.

Aintree will just be a social week for me, unfortunately, everything will be kept for Punchestown.

The in-form trainer who picked up his 200th winner on the weekend will be keen to keep his hotshots back so he can prepare them for the final push towards becoming Irish Champion Trainer of 2018.
