Jockey Tom Bellamy has escaped a ban after a breath test showed that he over the permitted level of alcohol when participating in a race on New Year’s Day, according to a report on Gloucestershire Live.
The jockey won the BetVictor Gold Cup in November but was forced to miss his mounts on New Year’s Day.
The threshold for alcohol is 17 micrograms per 100 millilitres of breath which is just under half of the drink driving limit.

Bellamy was reported by the stewards at the race who then referred the matter over to the British Horseracing Authority.
The statement from the stewards clearly stated that he was above the alcohol threshold and was suspended from racing for the remainder of the day.
The governing body today revealed that Bellamy has been cautioned about his actions but no ban has been imposed.
The Professional Jockeys’ Association is eager to warn all jockeys of the dangers of consuming too much alcohol, with impaired performance and safety as the main two concerns.
The caution serves as a warning to Bellamy and other jockeys that if this occurs again then the punishment will be more severe as they look to cut out too much alcohol consumption from the sport.
