Solow on road to recovery with Royal Ascot in mind

Trainer Freddy Head issued a positive bulletin on stable-star Solow as the imposing grey nears a return to the track after some injury issues.

The seven-year-old took the racing world by storm over a mile in 2015, recording successes in races including the Group One Queen Anne Stakes at Royal, Goodwood’s Group One Sussex Stakes and the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot on Champions Day in October 2015.

Not seen since winning an event at Chantilly on the All-Weather in March 2016, connections are keen to get the son of Singspiel’s career back on track and extend the gelding’s unbeaten sequence to 11 victories in his last 11 starts.

One of the best milers of his generation, Solow is a real top of the ground horse who has excelled in those conditions in recent times. Doubts will be raised as to whether the gelding can recapture his scintillating form of 2015 but connections are keen to get his career back on track.

Pierre-Yves Bureau, Racing Manager for the Wertheimer brothers who own the horse, said:

Solow has been in training since the middle of December and so far he has taken every step very well. Soon he will begin more serious work. We are very cautions as he was out of training for a long time but at the moment we are very pleased and hopefully we will see him again in the coming months. I hope we will see him run in May.
