Coneygree set for Sizing John Punchestown clash

Trainer Mark Bradstock is looking forward to a tantalising clash between his stable star Coneygree and Timico Cheltenham Gold Cup and Irish Gold Cup winner Sizing John in the Punchestown Coral Gold Cup next month as the son of Karinga Bay looks to get his career back on track.

The 2015 Chleltenham Gold Cup winner has run just twice since that success at Prestbury Park under Nico de Boinville. The 10-year-old won a poor race at Sandown before finishing a well-beaten 15 length second to Cue Card in the Betfair Chase at Haydock at the start of this season.

The gelding was ruled out of the Cheltenham Festival through injury but Bradstock hopes he has his charge nearly back to his best for the three-mile Grade One event.

Bradstock’s charge looks up against it as he takes on Sizing John who has been seriously impressive this season, particularly at Cheltenham last time, picking up well in the home straight.

Bradstock told the Daily Mirror: “We’re really, really chuffed with him. It’s going to be a great clash.”
