Sizing John heading to Punchestown

The Jessica Harrington-trained Sizing John, winner of Jump racing’s Blue Riband event, the Timico Cheltenham Gold Cup, will head to Punchestown as it was announced that the seven-year-old gelding will compete for the Coral Punchestown Gold Cup, April 26.

An impressive winner of the Irish Gold Cup in February, the son of Midnight Legend jumped superbly well at Cheltenham last Friday as he registered a two and three-quarter length success in the extended three and a quarter-mile event under jockey Robbie Power.

There were doubts coming into the race about the gelding’s stamina, however, Harrington’s charge put those questions to bed with a decisive victory in which he stayed on resolutely up the Cheltenham hill to provide Harrington, Power and owners Ann & Alan Potts with their first victory in the Cheltenham Gold Cup – and their second victory of the week with the same team combining with Supasundae to score in the Coral Cup.

Regarding Sizing John, Harrington said:

Sizing John has come out of his Cheltenham race very well and we were obviously thrilled with how everything went.

So we have decided that our next step is to go to the Coral Punchestown Gold Cup at the end of April.
