Idem won the Edinburgh Gin Handicap result at Perth on Thursday, justifying strong market confidence to secure the feature hurdle. Patrick Wadge steered the 17/2 shot to victory for trainers Lucinda Russell and Michael Scudamore.
The winner edged out Letterston Lady by a length, with The G Wizard a further half-length back in third. Letterston Lady, sent off at 9/2 for Mickey Bowen and jockey Sean Bowen, travelled prominently throughout but couldn’t match the winner’s effort in the final strides to land what would have been a creditable success in the Edinburgh Gin Handicap result.
Idem Lands Edinburgh Gin Handicap In Tight Finish
Fourth place went to Medieval Gold at 4.75 lengths, with the Edinburgh Gin Handicap result seeing a tightly bunched field contending through the closing stages. Divilabother finished fifth and Al Sayah sixth, both well beaten but running into places that reflected their official ratings.
My Chiquita, the subject of our morning preview, finished eighth after being supported at 6/1. The Class 2 contest over 3m on Good going was won in a time of 6m 7.10s, with Idem’s official rating of 127 and performance rating of 129 placing the winner at the sharp end of the field assembled for Perth’s flagship hurdle of the day.
