Meriden Wins Listowel Stakes Result At 9/4

The Listowel Stakes result saw Meriden claim the Edmund & Josie Whelan Memorial feature under Chris Hayes at 9/4 joint-favourite, with trainer Denis Gerard Hogan securing the £30,000 prize. According to the official result at Listowel, the winner powered clear in the closing stages to beat Iron Fist by 1.75 lengths in the 1m Listed contest over yielding ground.

Hayes drove his mount forward twice in the final two furlongs, with Meriden responding to stay on strongly to the line. Jagged Edge appeared in this morning’s Listowel Stakes tips and was sent off at 9/4 joint-favourite in the Listowel Stakes result, but the Stephen Thorne-trained runner found little when asked from two furlongs out and faded to third.

Meriden Holds Off Iron Fist To Win Listed Feature

Iron Fist, trained by Mrs J. Harrington and ridden by Shane Foley, rallied well entering the straight but could not match Meriden’s finishing effort. The Listowel Stakes result confirmed the winner’s superiority over the 1m trip, with Meriden’s staying power proving decisive inside the final furlong.
