Santo Parvenue won the Naas nursery handicap result at 6/1 under Nathan Crosse on Thursday. The winner, trained by Eddie & Patrick Harty, scored by half a length from Docks in the 5f Colm White Bookmakers Nursery Handicap on yielding ground, returning a time of 1m 1.74s.
Santo Parvenue came from just behind the early leaders and hit the front with a furlong and a half remaining, then held off a late challenge to secure the prize. Docks, ridden by Chris Hayes for trainer Paul W Flynn, came from sixth place a furlong out but could not quite close, ultimately beaten half a length. The Naas nursery handicap result reflected a pattern of strength from lower-rated runners across the afternoon card.
Cromane Holds On in the Late Nursery
Cromane won the Care At Home Nursery Handicap at 1m at 11/2 for trainer Joseph G Murphy and jockey G. F. Carroll, matching the Naas nursery handicap result with another narrow victory. Two Brigade, ridden by Reese Holohan for M. D. O’Callaghan, chased hard but Cromane held on by a length and a quarter over the mile.
Earlier on the card, Salt Lake and New Bond Street both ran out narrow winners in the 6f and 5f maiden races at 4/11F for their respective trainers. Diamonds And Dames took the 7f Auction Series Maiden at 4/1, a race we previewed in our morning guide to the card. Santerno, returned at 4/6F, secured the 1m Claiming Maiden for trainer Joseph Patrick O’Brien and jockey J. M. Sheridan.
