Virtual Rock‘s 33/1 victory in the Pip & Chris Emerald Wedding Anniversary Handicap Hurdle provided the standout Uttoxeter hurdle result from Tuesday’s card. According to the official result at Uttoxeter, Jonathan Burke guided the five-year-old to a three-length success for trainer Des Donovan in a race where the market leaders faltered.
The Uttoxeter hurdle result saw the winner, rated 107 officially, deliver a significant performance well above form. Norman Fletcher, sent off at 3/1 joint-favourite, chased home in second but lacked the closing pace of the victor, whilst Glance Of Glory, the other half of the market choice at 5/1, finished third, beaten 14 lengths overall.
Virtual Rock Claims Shock Uttoxeter Win
The victory vindicated Des Donovan’s patient approach with Virtual Rock, a horse previously rated below this field yet capable of generating significant value when conditions suit. The five-year-old found his rhythm over 2m4f in the closing stages to outstay the favoured runners, with Burke producing a well-timed challenge approaching the final furlong. Sam Twiston-Davies partnered Norman Fletcher, who made headway but could not match the winner’s acceleration late on. Our morning preview of the Uttoxeter card highlighted the competitive nature of this handicap hurdle, and Tuesday’s result vindicated the wider market uncertainty.
