Saratoga Picks Today: Can Anything Stop Magnitude on Whitney Day?

Meeting Context

It doesn’t get much bigger than this for our Saratoga picks today. It’s Whitney Day at the Spa: a stacked 14-race card from an 11:45 AM ET first post, headed by four Grade 1s — the $500,000 Test, the $750,000 Fourstardave, the $750,000 Saratoga Derby and the 99th running of the $1 million Whitney itself.

The forecast is for a fine upstate New York summer Saturday, so expect a fast main track and firm turf — the inner turf hosts three races, and the golden rule at the Spa stands: respect speed on the dirt. Chad Brown and the Ortiz brothers are everywhere on this card. Also racing today: Del Mar, Gulfstream Park and Monmouth Park. All odds are morning lines, correct at the time of writing.

The Favourites: The 99th Whitney is a Breeders’ Cup Classic preview. Magnitude is unbeaten in 2026 with a 114 Beyer in the Stephen Foster (G1), and he meets Sovereignty — last year’s Horse of the Year, still seeking a first win against elders — plus the mare Nitrogen, bidding to be just the seventh female winner in the race’s history. The Whitney looks set to be one of the most competitive horse racing cards of the summer.  The Value: Baeza at 7/2 with the Mott double-hand.
