Newmarket Apprentice Handicap Result: Prince Quattro Wins

Prince Quattro won the 5:23 William Hill Price Boosts Apprentice Handicap, the last race on Newmarket’s July Course card, at 10/3, running down the favourite Jack Langley to score by two and a quarter lengths for Mason Paetel and trainer James Owen.

Pos Horse Jockey SP
1st Prince Quattro Mason Paetel 10/3
2nd Jack Langley Jack Callan 11/8F
3rd Fram Castle Alexandra Egan (5) 10/3

Six ran over the 1m6f trip on good to firm ground, the winner recording 3m 5.52s. Fram Castle was a nose behind the runner-up in third.

The Race Story

Jack Langley, our preview verdict at 15/8 in the morning and sent off 11/8, looked the winner when kicking over two furlongs out. But Paetel had saved plenty on Prince Quattro: held up early, the James Owen runner made smooth progress three out, pounced two furlongs from home and kept finding, the pair pulling clear of a blanket battle for third.

Jack Langley pressed the winner again inside the final furlong but was held near the finish — a game effort in defeat that shortened his price all day and still wasn’t enough.

Tipster Accountability

A near-miss for the morning desk: our Newmarket preview verdict Jack Langley was beaten by a well-executed ride, closing a mixed day for the July Course picks. The 50/1 four-fold had already gone down with Graceful Song and Castle Rock beaten in the ITV races. None of the tracked tipsters in today’s tipster review played in the finale.

Looking Ahead

That wraps a lively seven-race card on the July Course, where Brave Nation had earlier landed the 4:50 sprint as the verdict suggested and Sugar Yes Please took the Group 3 Sweet Solera at 11/1. Attention now shifts to the evening action at Lingfield and Ayr, with full results to follow here.
