Cooladdi won the 6:18 Bernard Kenny Maiden Hurdle at Kilbeggan at 2/1, jumping soundly this time for Kieren Buckley and trainer Conor Maxwell to beat Tyson Fury by two and a quarter lengths.
| Pos | Horse | Jockey | SP |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1st | Cooladdi | Kieren Buckley | 2/1 |
| 2nd | Tyson Fury | Daniel King | 6/5F |
| 3rd | Master Sydney | Josh Williamson | 11/1 |
Thirteen ran over the two miles and three furlongs on good ground, with Master Sydney a length and a quarter away third.
The Race Story
Redemption for Cooladdi. Travelling like the winner when falling two out last time, the six-year-old was given a patient ride by Buckley, produced between the last two flights and settled it on the run-in. Tyson Fury, sent off the 6/5 favourite after his Galway third last week, again found one too good — the well-exposed gelding has now hit the frame in four of his last five without winning. The eye-catcher of the market was Mont Star: 13/8 in the morning on the strength of his Cork second to Hygge, the Henry de Bromhead runner drifted through the card, ceded favouritism to Tyson Fury and finished out of the first three.
Tipster Accountability
Split decision. Our Kilbeggan preview made Mont Star the verdict and he was beaten out of the frame — but the same piece wrote that Cooladdi “was travelling like a player when falling two out last time and is not a forlorn hope”, and the value line duly won. None of the tracked names in today’s tipster review had a position in the race.
Looking Ahead
The 6:48 Joe Cooney Memorial Hurdle over three miles and a furlong is next, where Pets Georgina — odds-on at 4/5 this morning — bids for a hat-trick for John Patrick Ryan against the class-dropping Rocky’s Diamond. Our result follows shortly. Earlier, Convincing completed a quick double for Ciaran Murphy and Eoghan Finegan in the 5:48.
